Payment Operations Manager

The Role

As the Payment Operations Manager, your primary objective is to act as the guardian of our revenue. You will manage the entire lifecycle of a transaction—from the moment a customer clicks 'pay' to the moment the funds are settled in our corporate accounts.

You will be responsible for managing our network of global acquirers, optimising payment performance, and ensuring our technical routing logic is always aligned with our commercial goals.

Key Responsibilities

1. Acquirer & Partner Management

  • Relationship Management: Act as the primary point of contact for our global network of acquiring banks and payment service providers.
  • MID Sourcing: Lead the end-to-end process of sourcing and onboarding new Merchant IDs (MIDs) to ensure processing redundancy and scalability.
  • Negotiation: Negotiate commercial terms, rolling reserves, and processing fees to improve the unit economics of our ventures.
  • Compliance & KYB: Manage the corporate documentation and "Know Your Business" (KYB) requirements for all legal entities and payment partners.

2. Performance & Authorisation Optimisation

  • Auth-Rate Management: Proactively monitor and analyse authorisation rates across different regions and banks to identify and rectify performance "leaks".
  • Traffic Routing: Design and manage intelligent routing logic to ensure that the right traffic is directed to the most appropriate acquirer based on risk profile and performance.
  • 3D Secure Strategy: Implement and tune authentication strategies (such as Adaptive 3DS) to balance security with a frictionless checkout experience.

3. Revenue Recovery & Subscription Health

  • Churn Mitigation: Optimise automated retry logic and dunning schedules to combat involuntary churn and maximise recurring revenue.
  • Lifecycle Monitoring: Oversee account updater services and subscription lifecycle triggers to ensure consistent rebill success.
  • Testing & QA: Coordinate the testing of checkout flows and "bank-side" authentication pages to ensure a seamless user experience across all devices and regions.

4. Financial Reconciliation & Audit

  • Reconciliation: Oversee the automated reconciliation process, ensuring that processed transactions match acquirer settlements and final bank deposits.
  • Fee Auditing: Monitor and audit processing fees to ensure acquirers are billing accurately according to agreed Interchange++ or blended rates.
  • Reporting: Collaborate with the data and accounting teams to maintain high-integrity dashboards in our Business Intelligence environment.

Requirements

  • Experience: 3–5+ years of experience in Payment Operations, ideally within a high-growth subscription-based technology company or venture builder.
  • Domain Knowledge: A deep understanding of the global payments landscape, including acquiring, card schemes, 3D Secure 2.0, and alternative payment methods.
  • Analytical Mindset: Strong ability to analyse complex datasets to spot trends, anomalies, and opportunities for performance improvement.
  • Commercial Acumen: Ability to navigate the legal and compliance complexities of managing multiple entities and banking relationships.
  • Technical Literacy: Comfortable working alongside developers and data engineers to implement routing logic and reporting pipelines.
  • Self-Starter: A "Unit of One" mentality—the ability to take full ownership of a project and drive results with minimal supervision.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to build and manage a sophisticated, automated payment infrastructure from the ground up.
  • A fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where your work directly impacts the bottom line.
  • A remote-first culture with a focus on high-performance and autonomy.
